Five reasons to visit The Walled Garden in Dorset this May Half Term

The May half term has arrived, and many families are on the lookout for easy, fun, and memorable ways to keep the kids entertained and engaged for the next 10 days! If you’re searching for something to do in Dorset that includes nature, animals, and adventure, here are five great reasons to visit us right here at The Walled Garden this half term.

1 – Meet the animals at Animal Acre

Our animal area has grown in recent times, and we’re now officially giving it a name – The Animal Acre! We’ve introduced a whole host of new residents over the last few months. From our Pygmy goats and Kunekune pigs through to our popular geese, chickens, ferrets, guinea pigs and rabbits, we have a happy animal family here who can’t wait to meet you! Fun facts, and information about our animals is at every pen, so you can learn as you explore. Bug & Exotic Animal Experiences taking place too, though at the time of writing, there are just a few tickets remaining!

2 – Explore The Gardens & Relax at The Dovecote Cafe

Our gardens are really in bloom right now, with beautiful flowers and striking foliage around every corner. There’s plenty of wide-open spaces to burn off energy or just to take a stroll and soak up the atmosphere inside our walls. Then why not pay a visit to the Dovecote café and refuel with a hot drink and a snack, or a dish from our menu including all day breakfasts, burgers and more. If you’re with the kids, we have a selection of books available for them to read while you take a few minutes to finish your coffee!

3 – Join the Butterfly Trail

Our Butterfly Trail is returning from Saturday 24th May! Open every day throughout the half term holiday, little explorers can pick up a map for £3, answer the questions and seek out the butterflies scattered around the gardens, to solve the mystery word. But don’t worry if you can’t answer everything, as every map is guaranteed a prize! Another great way to discover our gardens, and learn about nature on the way. Every map also includes a colouring competition to take home.

4 – Play Park Fun and a Brand-New Tractor Play Area

Our small play park has always been popular with our younger visitors, with a great climbing frame, slide and swings! But new for the May half term, we are excited to announce the installation of a Ride-On Tractor Play Area! Set up just outside the Garden Shop, the tractors offer a great way for kids under 10 to burn off some energy while enjoying the fresh air. All we ask is that parents or guardians keep a close eye on their children as they play and ensure everyone stays safe and respectful of others. FREE to use!

Dogs on leads are very welcome here at The Walled Garden & Animal Acre with plenty of shade on warm days, water bowls on hand and doggie treats available in the café, we know your dog is a big part of the family and we want the whole family to be able to have a fun day out together!
