Sarah Small is returning to play in our gardens this summer!

Visit The Walled Garden Moreton on Thursday 6th August and enjoy a live performance from professional viola da gamba player Sarah Small.

Sarah is embarking on a personal tour of the UK, and we’re delighted to welcome her back to the gardens to share her musical talents.

No booking is required to attend – admission is included with our standard Walled Garden entry fee of £4.

Sarah’s performance will begin at 11:30am, please arrive a few minutes before, and last for approximately one hour. It will take place on the main lawn beneath the willow tree.

Enjoy the performance, explore the gardens, and stop by the café, making for a wonderful day out this August.

“What came about from a desire to find a way to connect my work as a musician with climate action was a concert tour of the UK by bicycle, fully self-supported, pedalling over 4500km in 10 weeks to give 31 concerts speaking about our impact on the planet and value in active, greener travel and reconnection with the natural world and engagement with local communities. Since then, I toured through France for a month and again in January, during the storms in Devon, clocking up over 13,500km with my viola da gamba on my bike to reach concerts so far.

The music I play is a combination of historical pieces written during my instrument’s heyday of the renaissance and baroque era, traditional tunes collected on the road that reflect the landscapes passed through, and original compositions I’ve written inspired by meaningful touring in close connection with the natural environment, observing the losses of biodiversity as the climate crisis intensifies. I really enjoy playing in outdoor spaces, blending in with the birdsong and plants around makes the music feel more alive and relevant, connecting directly with the surroundings.”
